Specialist Counselling:
It is my belief that an experienced counsellor can work with a very wide range of issues. However, there are occasions when clients feel that they will be better able to make a connection with a counsellor who has had some direct experience of the issues that are concerning them. For this reason I offer specialist services to people who have been affected by the experiences described below.
Boarding School Survivors
I spent six years at Boarding School and while every experience is unique, I know from interactions with other people that there are many common themes that seem to cut across gender, age and family circumstances. The unique combination of experiences that have to be managed at a young age can create a perfect emotional storm that can continue to echo for many years.
Military Personnel and their Families
Although I have not served in the military, I come from a family that is steeped in the culture of uniformed service. My father was a career soldier and I had uncles who served in the Army, Navy and RAF in various conflicts around the world. My grandfathers fought in the First World War and my great grandfather fought in the Boer War.
As an army child I experienced the regular changes of home and school that required the routine ending of friendships and the building of new ones. I felt the mix of fear and admiration as my dad served in conflicts abroad and also saw the impact on his relationship with his wife and the rest of his family of living the Army life.
Clinical Professionals
I have worked extensively with a wide range of clinicians supporting them through the many challenges that they may face during their careers. I have a solid understanding and appreciation of the unique pressures of providing clinical services both within primary care and larger organisational settings. Clinical career development is becoming ever more complex as it starts to include managerial and strategic responsibilities. Targeted support can make all the difference at crucial moments along this pathway to avoid burnout and the family problems that this can lead to.
I am able to offer a customised programme for anyone wishing to explore their experiences of these particular situations and how they might be continuing to impact upon their lives or the lives of a loved one. These range from one-off intensive sessions to weekly or monthly meetings. Please contact me for more information and to discuss what might work best for you.
