An Introduction to Development Coaching for Boards & Trustees:

A high performing team at Board level is a key requirement for a successful and sustainable organisation.  There are increasing pressures on Boards to oversee the delivery of consistently good results while continuing to maintain high levels of corporate governance.  The challenge facing all Board Members is to achieve and maintain consensus across a diverse range of responsibilities that are being carried out within the context of a changing environment.  Typically Board responsibilities would include:
  • Setting Goals for the Organisation and Executive Team
  • Reviewing Performance by agreeing Parameters and Individual Metrics
  • Executive Team Selection and Development, Leadership Models and Succession Planning
  • Organisational Structure, Governance and Lines of Accountability
  • Creating and Maintaining Trust among all Stakeholders
Chairs and their Board Members or Trustees are frequently too busy carrying out their responsibilities to focus in any detail on the way they carry out their roles.   This can limit their effectiveness if processes are not regularly reviewed and unhelpful behaviours are allowed to accumulate.   Typically this can lead to disengagement with people sleep-walking through meetings and only becoming motivated around their own pet topics.   At its worst, the Board can degenerate into a totally dysfunctional group were infighting and sabotage become the norm, blocking any bold or creative decision-making.

Personal Development Coaching can jump start your Board by bringing back intention and challenge, empowering all members to engage fully with the decision-making processes by identifying their desires and ambitions both for themselves and the organisation.
